11 non-negotiable features every CBSE school website must have (2026 checklist)

From affiliation banners to UDISE, from parent login to the exact fee page structure parents look for — the 11-point checklist every CBSE principal should sign off before launch.

01 Why compliance and trust features win you more enquiries

A CBSE parent visiting your website for the first time is unconsciously ticking a trust checklist in under 8 seconds. Can they instantly verify your CBSE affiliation number? Can they see the fee structure without downloading a PDF? Can they confirm your UDISE code matches what was shared at the admission desk? If the answer to any of those is "no", their finger is already clicking back to Google — and visiting the next school that answers yes. If you are still running an old WordPress or Wix site that only has 4 static pages, open our CBSE school website landing page to see the minimum information architecture a CBSE site needs, then compare that against the Sitora Growth tier (the tier we ship for most CBSE K–12s). For a Delhi NCR or Noida school, the combination of the dedicated Delhi city page + CBSE vertical page is what moved enquiries from 12/month to 37+/month for one of our Delhi clients — the combination of fast site, proper schema and a GBP that matched the website drove the lift. This 11-point list is the exact set of features we use at Sitora before every CBSE website goes live.

02 Features 7 through 11: the compliance + conversion layer most schools ship without

The first six features on the checklist (affiliation banner, UDISE display, mobile-friendliness, fee structure page, faculty with photos, and admission timeline) are table-stakes. If you tick those you are already in the top 25% of CBSE sites in India. Features 7–11 are where you start outranking peer schools on Google and actually converting visitors into campus tours: (7) results & toppers page (Class X and XII by year with shareable cards), (8) "book a campus tour" WhatsApp CTA on every page (not just the contact page), (9) parent login / secure notice zone, (10) news & events updated at least once/month, and (11) city-level SEO + schema (LocalBusiness schema, H1s mentioning your city, and a dedicated city page if you are in a major metro). For (11), if you are in Hyderabad/TS/AP or Mumbai/MMR or Pune/PCMC or Bengaluru, we already ship this OOTB on the Hyderabad city, Mumbai city, Pune city and Bengaluru city landing pages respectively — no extra build required. If you are still quoting the site scope yourself, cross-check every line item against the 2026 cost breakdown guide to make sure you are not being overcharged for things Sitora includes as standard.

Frequently asked

FAQs

Is it mandatory for a CBSE school to have a website?

CBSE strongly recommends a school website for public transparency, and several states make it a practical requirement for RTE admissions, fee disclosures and CBSE affiliation renewals. Even when not strictly mandated, a school without a working website fails the very first impression test with modern parents and loses admission enquiries to peer schools that do have one.

Where should the CBSE affiliation number be displayed on the website?

The affiliation number, CBSE school code and affiliation validity date should appear in two places: (1) the footer of every page — so it is reachable with one scroll from anywhere, and (2) a dedicated "About / Affiliation" page that also displays the affiliation letter or a clear link to CBSE's public school locator for cross-verification.
